Bulgaria defeat real learning experience for Northern Ireland, insists Liverpool’s Conor Bradley

Liverpool youngster Conor Bradley insists Northern Ireland's 2-1 defeat to Bulgaria was a real learning experience for the squad.

The 19-year-old defender was making his second international appearance as Northern Ireland U21s fell to a narrow loss in their European Championship qualifier.

Despite the result, Bradley believes the game was a valuable experience for the young team.

“It was a tough game, but it was a great learning experience for us,” Bradley said.

“We can take a lot of positives from the game and we will learn from our mistakes.

“We played some good football and we had some good chances to score. We were just unlucky not to get a result.

“We are a young team and we are still learning. We will get better with every game and we will be stronger for the experience of playing against good teams like Bulgaria.”

Bradley was one of a number of young players who impressed for Northern Ireland in Sofia.

The Liverpool defender showed his versatility by playing in a number of positions during the game.

He was also a threat going forward, creating several chances for his team-mates.

Bradley's performance is a sign of the progress that is being made by Northern Ireland's young players.

The U21s have now lost just one of their last five games and they have shown that they have the potential to be a force in the future.

Bradley is one of a number of young players who are hoping to make the step up to the senior team in the future.
